After a long arduous day’s hunting our lodges will not disappoint! We have three beautiful residences in which you can relax, and enjoy locally prepared food and beverages, before a comfortable night’s rest. Located rurally and true to their hunting heritage, the residences offer you a truly idyllic rustic and luxurious experience.

Our two lodges, Leithen Valley and Maungawera, both offer large bedrooms with ensuite facilities and breathtaking views right outside your room! During your stay at either lodge you will be offered home cooked meals prepared with local produce and accompanied by a local wine or craft beer.

Family is everything at Leithen Valley Hunts and you may well be visited by Rachel’s parents, brother or sister as you sit around the open fire and share stories of the day’s events!

Each of our residences offers a different hunting experience. Read more about these below and discuss with Rachel your ideal hunting trip. This could be time at one or other of our residences or a combination of them all!

The Red Stag Hunt takes place on our private ranch in the south of the South Island where you are likely to see numerous free-roaming quality trophies each day. The terrain is moderate hill country, the valleys are full of beech forest. Access to this the area is by four-wheel-drive vehicles, horses or simply by walking. This part of the hunt lasts three to four days on average. Often a hunter can’t resist adding a Fallow Buck or Wapiti Bull to the package.

The accommodation itself is nestled amongst native beech forest on the 10,000 acre family farm. The lodge sleeps 14 and has a hot pool and BBQ as well as an outdoor fire, a large kitchen and shared living area. Relax in the hot tub after an exhausting day, enjoy local beverages and hearty home cooked food, while you discuss the adventures of the day!

For the Chamois Hunt, we take a two hour drive from Leithen Valley to our Maungawera Lodge in Wanaka, a small, growing tourist town situated on the shores of Lake Wanaka, where our guests enjoy a relaxed atmosphere in the foot hills of the Southern Alps of New Zealand. The lodge has all the amenities of a first class hunting lodge with sightseeing, shopping, ski fields, vineyards and fishing right on our doorstep, as well as private property to hunt chamois, a benefit exclusive to Leithen Valley Hunts. Chamois are probably the most difficult to hunt because of their sharp senses. Often our hunters prefer to access this area by helicopter, which is an unforgettable experience.

Nestled in Maungawera Valley on 25 acres, Maungawera Lodge offers stunning and uninterrupted views of the Southern Alps. Relax in the hot pool or pool, or sit by the fire and watch the sun set! Maungawera Lodge is also only 10 minutes from the small, friendly town of Wanaka, offering access to an abundance of restaurants, cafes and boutique shops. Wanaka rightly owns the title of being one of the most beautiful small towns in New Zealand.

Tahr are plentiful and are easily hunted on this private property, probably the best in the world! This is a challenging stalk hunt in mountainous terrain, but very rewarding when successful and you are back in the comforts of our well outfitted camp. Access to this area is by helicopter. The drive from Maungawera Lodge to Tahr Camp has breath taking views that only New Zealand can offer.
